This past weekend, we adopted a new puppy from the local shelter. He’d been there for over two weeks and no one had adopted him yet. I took that as a sign that he was meant for us. My husband was hesitant to bring home a second dog, but once those big, expressive eyes met ours, we simply couldn’t resist.

At 10 weeks old, this little rascal may only weigh six pounds, but he has the feisty personality of a storybook fox…so naturally, we named him Onyx, after a certain furry friend from Quicksilver by Callie Hart. It just fit.

It’s been some years since we had a puppy in the house, and even then, our oldest dog Penny Bay was already five months old when we brought her home. But I do love shopping, and even more so finding a great deal.

Here are some of my favorite purchases since adopting Onyx.

Unnecessary? Probably. Adorable? Absolutely!

There’s something just extra cuddle about a pup in an outfit. While Penny absolutely detests wearing clothes (though sometimes I’ll bribe her into a dress), Onyx happily shows off his dapper fashion sense. And in case you were wondering, his aesthetic is teal/aqua.

Save your furniture (and maybe your fingers).

Puppies are going to chew…a lot. Buy these in bulk.

Keep your pup’s mind sharp.

Puppies need a lot of stimulation and mental challenges to stay engaged. Onyx wakes me up promptly at 5:30 every morning, and I just don’t match his energy before coffee, much less before the sun comes up. So, I came up with the idea to hide his breakfast kibble in each of the compartments on this puzzle. Worked like a charm! He stays busy, happy, and fed, while I enjoy my warm bean water and read a chapter or two while the sun slowly peeks through the trees behind our house.

This little food puzzle is perfect for entertaining your new puppy while also giving him a brain leap. Click here to buy one of your own!

Give him the spa treatment.

These gloves might be my favorite puppy purchase. They’re practical, they’re soft, and they cut bath time in half. Not to mention, Onyx and Penny both absolutely love the massage. Follow up that bath with a 3-in-1 hair brush and blow dryer for dogs to really provide a five-star experience.

Keep your furry friends hydrated.

With Penny getting older (she turned 12 last month!), and Onyx still so young, we need to take many breaks on our afternoon strolls, but this Texas heat is no joke! I was worried about the temp, so I ordered this water bottle to bring with us and it made all the difference! Now the pups stay hydrated and can keep up the pace more easily. 10/10 recommend.

And keep them contained.

When Penny was a puppy, she ate anything and everything, like most pups do. But I hated keeping her locked up in a crate during times when I couldn’t watch her like a hawk, so for her safety, we bought a play pen to keep her contained while still allowing her enough space to play. She was much happier!

A word of caution…don’t leave your dogs in their play pen unattended like we did. We’d taken an afternoon trip and thought she’d be secure in the pen while we were out, only to come home and find the pen halfway across the room and the plastic attachments chewed up. It could have been much worse–lesson learned.

Fur-babies deserve to be comfortable, too.

Curb their hunting instinct.

I don’t know what it is about this little colorful loofa dog, but both my dogs are obsessed with it. When Penny destroyed the first one, we bought a second, and the love still continues. Penny and Onyx keep stealing it back from each other. As for the hedgehog, he’s currently one of Onyx’s personal favorites.
